    Expansion & Renovation Update

After seventeen months of construction work, the Chapter will move into the larger and totally renovated SAE house this January.
Major changes include a new two-story Great Hall where the old dining room and kitchen once stood, a new kitchen/serving area under the old parking lot, and a new TV/game room above the new kitchen.

Work also included removing walls to merge the old living room, foyer, and TV room into one large reception hall, and adding eleven single-man rooms in the attic.  An elevator will serve all five floors, and the old Chapter Room will convert to a library/study area.

Finally, rotting window frames have been replaced, asbestos has been removed, and a new fire sprinkler system and new heat/air conditioning has been installed.

Additional renderings and pictures of the progress can be found below.
To date, we have raised $2.6 million of the $3.1 million needed.

    The 1894 Society
We recognize that many alumni would like the opportunity to participate in the fundraising effort but lack the ability to do so at a level that reaches the threshold required for permanent recognition in the Chapter House. Therefore, membership is now being offered in the new “1894 Society," named for the year Alpha-Upsilon was founded.  Membership will be displayed in the house, and you will receive recognition at the grand opening celebration alongside the alums who contributed larger amounts.
You will also be honored with a cocktail party at the Country Club of Little Rock for those alums in central Arkansas, and a similar party will be arranged for those in NWA.  Finally, you will receive a complimentary Mom Mary Smith Memorial T-shirt (depected below) designed by former EA Will Sneed and containing her famous line that she uttered each year during formal rush as she welcomed the rushees to the "best damn fraternity on campus."

The contribution required for membership in the 1894 Society is a total of $1,894, spread out over a 5-year period.  This comes to $378.80 per year and is tax-deductible.

Group Fundraising Effort to Name House Mother's Suite in Memory of Mom Mary Smith
As you probably know, this summer we lost our beloved house mother of 14 years, Mom Mary Smith.  She served from 1999 until her retirement in 2013 and has a profound impact on the lives of so many.  In searching for a lasting and meaningful tribute to her, a group of young alumni requested the opportunity to raise funds to purchase the naming rights to the House Mother's Suite and name it in her honor.

Naming rights for the suite are $50,000, so we've set the goal of raising this amount from 20 alums over a 5-year period.  This comes to $500 per year over five years, for a total of $2,500 each.  This contribution is tax-deductible.

A recognition plaque displaying all 20 names will be located at the entrance to the Mom Mary Smith Memorial House Mother's Suite.  Those who contribute will automatically be members of the 1894 Society and will also receive recognition on that plaque plus all of the benefits listed in that section above.
